A NEW BEGINNING

New BeginningOriginally posted on our Facebook page. Visit our page HERE.

So maybe you are new to being a “Christian”, “Jesus follower” or whatever you wanna call it. Or maybe you have been a “Christian” for a while and have recommited yourself to a Christ-centered life…. What does that look like?

We put together a few bullet points to get you started.

BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING

STEP 1: You prayed that prayer

  •  Acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God; that He came to earth as a man in order to live the sinless life that we cannot live; that He died in our place, so that we would not have to pay the penalty we deserve.
  • Confess your past life of sin — living for yourself and not obeying God.
  • Admit you are ready to trust Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.
  • Ask Jesus to come into your heart, take up residence there, and begin living through you.

STEP 2: Tell someone that you are comfortable with. This is exciting stuff. Don’t keep it to yourself. Find a friend, a pastor, someone that is also a Christian to share with. They will be excited for you and may be able to help you find answers to questions you might have.

Remember that you are now a daughter of THE king. Wear your crown proudly!

GET TO KNOW GOD

How do you get to know someone? You spend time with them and listen to what they have to say.

How will you get to know God? What is He like?

God gave us the Bible to show us who He is.

“I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways.  I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.” Psalms 119:15-16

In order to get to know Him, you need to read the book! Many people try reading the Bible from front to back and get bogged down a few books into it. Try beginning with the book of Matthew. Maybe take a peek at Psalms. Or check out www.youversion.com. There are tons of Bible reading plans to help you get started.

TALK TO GOD

You gotta talk. A relationship isn’t going to survive if you don’t talk to each other. The same goes with your relationship with God. You gotta talk.

Prayer is just talking to God. Check out this great blog post on prayer. And be sure to download the free printable at the end on how to P.R.A.Y.

CONNECT WITH OTHER BELIEVERS

Get and stay connected with other ladies that believe what you do. In Hebrews 10:25, it says, “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.” We all need encouraging from time to time. We really need each other!

Following The Connection’s FB page is a great start! Come to Connection events to spend time with the ladies and make new friends.

If you don’t already attend a church, we can help you find one. Or check out this online list. Ask others where they attend and what they like best about their church. Just like the people that attend church, each church has a different personality. You’ll feel more comfortable around some personalities than others. If you visit a church & it didn’t feel just right, don’t give up. It just may not be the right personality for you.

WHAT ARE YOU SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH?

Take a look around you. Music. Books. Television. Friends. Fun.

What are you filling your mind with? Who are you spending time with? You are beginning a new life. Is it time for a little “lifestyle remodel” and replace place things that no longer reflect your new passions?

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”  Philippians 4:8

Ask God to show you areas that might need some updating. Try listening to Christian radio. Check out authors that have the same beliefs that you do. Skip that show that is inappropriate.

Wherever you focus your attention, your mind and heart will follow. Choose wisely.

NEED SOME ADVICE?

Sometimes, you just need to talk it out.

Women crave relationships. As was mentioned in previous posts, we really need each other. But this need is not just for friendship. We learn from each other. We learn that we aren’t the only ones to have gone through stuff. And we learn from other women’s successes AND failures.

Is there a Christian woman around you that you admire the way she handles herself? Or you wonder, “How does she do it?!” Consider getting to know her better. Spend time with her. Figure out how she handles X, Y, Z.

Maybe you would even want to ask her to help you learn and grow in your faith.

The Connection is beginning a mentoring program in early 2018 where we would actually match up women to learn and grow together. More details to come on this new program called Together.

Please know that our Prayer Team and Leadership Team are praying for YOU! We want to see you thrive in your relationship with God. Let us know if you have questions or just want to talk.
