Passover – God’s Redemptive Plan, part 2

Passover image 2

“His firstborn Son, Yeshua, became our redeemer, sacrificed on the altar of the Cross, freeing us from our slavery to sin.” ― Martha Zimmerman

Things to remember as we go through this series:

  1. Firstborn Son
  2. Blood sacrifice for Redemption of Sin
  3. Spotless /Unblemished Lamb

Let’s begin in Exodus chapters 1-11.

In short, we see the people of Israel are in slavery to the Egyptians. God hears their cries for deliverance from the bondage.  God calls Moses to approach Pharaoh and say, “Let my people go….” And every time Pharaoh says, NO to Moses.

After all nine plagues, Pharaoh still says a resounding NO!

Then God says to Moses, I will bring one more plague on Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that he will let you go completely. Exodus 11:1-2.  Verses 4-5… This is what the Lord says: ‘About midnight, I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son in Pharaoh’s household…to the firstborn son of the slave girl…and all the firstborn of the cattle as well.

Exodus 12 The Lord said to Moses & Aaron in Egypt, This month is to be for you the first month of your year. (God said this because they were starting a New life.) On the tenth of this month each man is to take a lamb for his household. The animal you choose must be year old males without defect, take care of them until he fourteenth day of the month, (they would care for the lamb in their homes) all people must slaughter the lamb at twilight. (An interesting note about the Passover Lamb, no bones were to be broken. Exodus 12:46b) Then take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood put it on top and sides of the door frame. (when they did this it made the sign of the Cross).

That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread without yeast. Eat in haste. It is the LORD’S Passover.  On this night, I will pass through Egypt and struck down every firstborn ― both men and animal. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. (it is the Passover Sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelite’s in Egypt and spared their homes when He stuck down the Egyptians) (when we accepted Jesus, God only sees the Blood of His son) At midnight the LORD stuck down all the firstborn Egypt. Pharaoh then told Moses to leave, take your flocks and herds.

You might be asking, “What does the Passover have to do with me?” A lot! I will explain it in the last two parts of this series. The next will be published next Monday.

Father, Thank You for Your living Word! — Amen
