An unprecedented season

Moms, this is a tough season.

Parenting in the time of COVID-19 has been a challenge.  For me, it meant being stuck inside the house (and backyard) alone with my 5- and 3-year-old girls for weeks.  We are used to being home, but not being able to go to preschool, the park, meet friends, go to the library, or even run errands for something to do was hard.

None of us expected it to go on this long.

“Flatten the curve” they said, “It is only a few weeks.” But here we are in mid-August with slightly lessened restrictions, but still no real end in sight.

Now we have a completely new dilemma.

What do we do about school????

Some school districts are giving options. Some are not.  Do you send them back to school – with masks/face shields and lots of restrictions which will feel far from being back to “normal”? Do virtual school, zoom meetings, cyber school, or remove them completely and homeschool?

The truth is, there is no right answer.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

We must all consider our unique set of circumstances.  Some parents must work outside the home and need school to be in-person. Some are not comfortable with technology to handle online school. Some parents or children are immuno-compromised.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6

The only answer I can give, is to pray about it.  Ask God to give you the wisdom and the confidence to make your decision and own it.  Make sure God is in your plans and they will succeed.  Pray with your kids and for your kids, that they will try hard and roll with whatever comes along in this new season. We are all in this together.

Lord,

I pray for all the parents and children who are preparing for their new school year; however, it may look.  May you give them the wisdom and patience to handle the challenges they may face.  May the teachers and staff be protected and have your blessing as they are struggling too.  I pray that you will be with each one of us as we navigate this new season and school year.  I pray that each parent knows that the decision they make is the right one for their family.

I pray all this in Jesus’ name.

Amen
