God does give us more than we can handle

“God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.”

This phrase which is comforting to hear when we are going through trials and tribulations is actually a lie.

I know it’s pretty blunt for me to say.

But, think about this…

A man knowing his outcome. Being treated like a criminal. Made fun of. Whipped until he is covered in blood. Forced to carry a large wooden cross all the way to the spot he knew he would suffer and endure even more pain.

I don’t need to go into any more details of what happens next. But what I think is no one probably told Jesus, “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.”

Every day, we experience hardship of different magnitudes. The Bible even tells us there will be pain, suffering, trials, and tribulations. There are countless scriptures that tells us this starting in Genesis with what God says to Eve…

“The Lord God said to the woman, “I will increase your pain when you give birth. You will be in great pain when you have children. You will long for your husband. And he will rule over you.” Genesis 3:16-17

I challenge you as I have challenged myself to go through and find these scriptures about pain, suffering, trials, and tribulations.  I have found it eye opening how many suffered and I did not read anywhere that “God doesn’t give us more than we can handle”. A lot of what I read about was people that experienced more than anyone could handle.

I began to think about the many times I have felt things have been more than I could handle and how a lot of the times I tried to handle it on my own.

When I recognize that things are too much to handle and I turn to God, I then allow myself to surrender and lean into the peace that only God can provide.

WITH GOD…

“I can do all things THROUGH him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 ESV

Because with Jesus, with the Holy Spirit and with GOD… we can handle it.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” has been a verse Lindsey holds dear to her heart as she found that because of Jesus there is hope and there is a future when resting in the peace only God can provide.
