True North

I love the book of Deuteronomy! So, when the pages of Deuteronomy  came up in my read-your-Bible-in-a-year, I was so pumped.

True North: Finding Joy in the Journey

Do you ever find yourself circling the same mountain over and over? Each of our mountains will be different from the other. But there are days you find yourself stuck or fixated on the same issue, the same mind game, the same struggle and you wonder how do I move from here to there?

Caleb and Joshua were the only two men sent out by Moses that came back with a positive report. They viewed the same things as the other ten men when looking upon the land they were going to possess, but Caleb and Joshua chose to have a positive attitude and see beyond the negative. O, they saw the giants, the strong men living in the land and all those who were living there with them, but they focused on the luscious foods, milk and honey. (Numbers 13).

Caleb had a different spirit and fully followed God unlike the others…

But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land. Numbers 14:24

What is your attitude? Do you choose the positive?

Deuteronomy 1:30 tells us, “The Lord your God goes before you and He will fight on your behalf.”

Deuteronomy 2:3 reads, “You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn North….”

Is God convicting you as He has me recently to turn North and stop circling the same mountain? What good is it to you or anyone for that matter?

Take the first step to leave behind all that holds you back from experiencing the fullness of God. Turn North.

When turning true North, look up.

Seek the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not the things of earth. (Colossians 3:1-2) Don’t allow anything to distract you from the truths of God.

What does finding your true North mean?

In Bill George’s book, True North, he says, “It’s the internal compass that guides you successfully through life. It is your orienting point – your fixed point in a spinning world – that helps you stay on track…It’s based on what is most important to you, your most cherished values, your passions and motivations and the sources of satisfaction in your life.”

When you seek Him and focus on the good things He has given you: salvation, grace, mercy, love, honor, adoption into His family and you can add to the list, then you will enjoy the journey along the broken path. You can see beyond your own understanding and trust that He will fight for you while you are silent.

The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. Exodus 14:14

Your true North is dictated by the internal strength that comes from the power of the Holy Spirit and Christ who lives in you the hope of glory.

For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. Colossians 1:27

Remembering the past will help you to see the mighty hand of God and His outstretched arm. It is always good to remember where He has brought you from, but the secret is to not get stuck there. Choose not to keep circling the same mountain over and over. When we move out we will enjoy the Sabbath rest from continual striving. Be still and know He is God and He will take you from where you are to where you want to be. Just turn North. (Deuteronomy 5:15)
