It’s one thing that I as an adult and follower of Christ would come up against people that did not agree with my beliefs or who would give backlash about the way I am living my life.

But, when it’s my child facing this… it brings out the mama bear.

And rightfully so, I want to protect her.

My old self would have jumped on board to bring down this other person attacking my child but really what would that do but cause emotional chaos and a war of words.

But, I am no longer that old self when I am in Christ. Instead I am striving to be that person that sets an example just as Christ did for us.

In this new way of living I found myself protecting her by turning to the word of God and teaching her what Ephesians 6:12 says:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

And by setting the example of what God commands of us in John 13:34:

“Love one another as I have loved you”

Satan wants us to retaliate because it allows resentment, anger, and evil doing to build in us. I believe he specifically does this because he knows what Love can do.

Here is an example of what Love does:

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”   -1 Peter 4:8

And loving protects us because it teaches us:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

I told my daughter to keep in mind…

Love may not change the other person instantly, because changing involves a heart transformation. A heart transformation from my experience has only taken place when the other person is ready and willing. But, love does change the way you react and the way you live out life. Love can allow you to forgive, move on and not allow satan to root in you. I admire my daughter for choosing to love despite what she is up against. It shows a lot of maturity, obedience and faith on her part and this mama couldn’t be prouder.

Today I pray for those who are struggling with loving or being loved. Look to the Word of the Lord, rejoice in His truths and hold onto the hope of what Love can do.
